Free Urchin

Free a black long spine urchin. Had him a year great algae cleaner. Only problem he is suspected of chewing my powerhead wire, so beware, great for ref.

was gonna ask for it till i did research. it is reef safe but has a venom similar to bee venom and i am allergic. i only posted this as FYI for any one else interested.

Sorry, he seems to have eaten a little too much of my copper wire, not the best diet for inverts.

A caution to all though, I never thought it could happen but urchins will eat every thing even those tasty power head wires so be cautious when you put your hands in the tank. I almost found out the hard way.

First I've heard of urchins eating power cords, which just goes to show you how many unexpected things can go wrong.

Where were the power cords? Did he have to climb the glass to get to them or could he move from a rock to them?

He climbed the glass to them. They were two Korilas about 4" below the water/. After looking and looking I did find some other people who had it happen to them. After a year of no problems he ate the two cords and the base of my frogspawn in half. Maybe there wasn't enough algae for him and he was hungry? I know I wont take the chance again.
