freezing rock and aptasia.

I have two rocks that are covered with aptasia (sp?) I have heard that I can put it in the freezer for a couple day's, to kill everything on the rock, then quarantine it rinsing the rock, before putting it back in the tank. The main question I have is whether or not freezing the Rock will kill it all or not. Any better ideas? I have too much aptasia to just hit with a needle full of Hot water, joe's juice. etc. Any help would be great.

Honestly, get new rock- you could do all that, and wind up causing a mini cyle reintroducing the rock with all the other dead stuff on there. And, frankly, you still might not kill off the aptasia, it's just that tough.

It thrives in tanks with a lot of nutrients, so ditching the rock and fixing the nutrient export problem is a better fix.

might make sure its aiptasia and not majanos
(huge difference if you didnt already know)

if its aiptasia
then there is no reason to go thru all that trouble... there are a lot of other simple options to get rid of aipts... the simplest and best way imo is to get several peppermint shrimp and throw them in (after a careful acclimation)... it wont be long all the aipts will be gone.

dont fret it
if its only aiptasia... if they are majanos then well do your research (not an easy pest to get rid of and many mistake them for aipts)

just dont ruin your good LR
for a few aipts... they are a nuisance but by no means that big of a deal...

good luck

do any of them have bubble tips?

recom really doing a search of PICS
to differentiate the aipts from majanos (can be sometimes hard to tell) but the majanos will have bubbletips on the ends...
