I have a 35 gal tub with IO salt mix and ro/di water that is about a week old no rock or other substances in bucket but i am getting an ammonia reading of about 0.2??? what can i do to fix this

It's the salt...I'm having the same issue right now with instant oceans salt. I use reef crystals and once I add the salt i get instant ammonia readings, about the same as what you are getting.

yes, a little ammonia (0.2 ppm or less) is quite typical of many salt mixes. Generally it is not a concern. You won't be keeping fish in 100% new water, and the ammonia is rapidly removed once added to a cycled tank.

If it is cycled it should be fine, but why not put it into the display tank and put used tank water in the QT?

what if the dt is fallow for ich? is there a risk of using the dt water?

I honestly think I lost an anthias in qt in only one week after I switched to IO salt. Had been doing fine for last 2 weeks.

I now have 1 bellus angel, 3 anthias in a 55g qt that I don't want to lose. I'm doing 2 gallon WC with IO salt and it's not cycled.

I didnt use water from DT because it was at the end of cycle. but now that all levels amm., nitrite, and nitrate are at 0 i started doing 2 gal water changes to qt tank using water from dt and discarding water from qt. I am running a HOB bio wheel without the carbon filter due to copper treatment that i started. I have 2 small ocellaris clowns and a small 6 line in the 10 gal qt. clowns are doing great 6 line is hiding between piece of pvc and base of heater and isnt in terrible shape but not the greatest either. I am assuming it is due to the ammonia because when i put them all in there they were fine.

I don't think the ammonia from the salt mix is going to kill fish generally, but adding it to ammonia they are producing could be a contributor.
