freshwater dipping the chaeto

The Chaeto has been acting as a detritus collector in my tank and I think it's inhibiting its growth. Would it be okay to quickly dip my chaeto in freshwater to get rid of the detritus?

You could freshwater dip it if you like.. but why not just grab it from the fuge/tank, toss it into a bucket with a little saltwater, and then shake it out? Same thing I would think, and you wont be killing the bacteria and little delicate inverts living in the chaeto itself.

Could then use a net to grab all the pods and shrimp that fall out... I'd feel bad about flushing all those guys.

I throw it on the lawn and spray it with the hose.

Rinse it in salt water and then put it in a salad spiner. :spin1:
