lokani dead! i tried frag some tips but RTN set in, all tank parameteres are good.. sg sitting at 1.026 temp 78, ammonia 0. i am gonna add my charcoal reactor, seems like every piece i liked is dieing. my purple monster? anyway purple with green polyps i think is next... same as my ora chips,, both very ****ed. This is so depressing, years worth of corals and growth down the drain..........

The move stressed all the corals. Why dont you put them back in the display tank again, if its still running. React quickly or you might lose all, sad man you had really nice sps.

just for those who wonder what AEFW do and look like

you see the white spots those are bite marks, seems these bastards like tri colors, ill be avoiding them in future

brown dots are eggs when you look at them up close

and hence why you cant see these bastards this is a very large one ususally you'll never see them just there destruction

First, I must say your tank initially was very impressive! I am currently setting up a 150 gallon bare-bottom system, and will be watching closely to see how your project progresses. I am sorry to hear about the parasites, they are something that unfortunately have become all too familiar with.....good luck with the AEFW! I am also sorry to hear that you have lost some of your prized colonies...don't give up hope, your future system will be incredible.

If I may, I had a couple of questions about your previous and future setup. What supplements were you using aside from Calcium & Alkalinity dosing? Were you using any bacteria method, or dosing any trace elements? What are you planning on dosing when you set up your tank as a bare-bottom? Do you run a refugium or a deep sand bed in your sump currently? Are you planning to on your new system?

Sorry for all the questions, and again, I'll be watching the thread closely. Most of all, good luck with the setup!

Nate i kept it simple, and im sure i would get better results with fancier gadgets but it is what it is.

All i dosed was arm and hammer baking soda for alk, bulk reef supplies CA and once a month i add 20oz of tech m for mg.
I made my own fish food, had a bunch of stuff like selcon,cyclopeze,brine,bloodworms,oyster eggs, nori, garlic etc.

I never used supplements however i will say for a little while back i used amino acids i swore my colors improved

but thats it, no refugium, no deep sand bed, no kalk, no bacteria method just alot of live rock (approx 150lbs in a 120 if not more).

This time i am upgrading my lights to lumen bright mini wides, but the rest stays the same.

Thank you for your reply and the information you have shared. More and more I find that people have completely subscribed to bacterial additives/media to maintain their aquariums. I don't believe that they are necessary in order to have a beautiful aquarium and great coral coloration. You are one of the people that proves this! I will be utilizing methods such as a bare-bottom, large skimmer, and stringent maintenance regimen to maintain an adjustable ULNS. Please keep us posted as time permits; I for one, will be watching closely.

Sometimes i wonder if i did the right thing, came home today to some serious destruction in my vat, parameters are stable but corals continue to brown jelly slime and tissue blowing off, i am trying to cut the tissue back but its not working. At this rate i will have nothing left and to be honest with you if i lose the last few i have i will be officially breaking down the tank. I can not stand the aggravation these pest have caused me, they have pushed me over the edge with all the nonsense i have gone through with this tank with red bugs, bryopsis AEFW, IM OVER IT! So for now lets just say all my show piece corals are dead and the run of the mill ones are barely holding on. Stay tuned to see if i am in or out of this hobby!

BTW started the charcoal reactor and did a 20% water change to see if that helps, fingers crossed

This is sad to see, if it was me I would have left them in the DT and spot treated them.

Well total disaster, corals dropping like flies, i in a desperate attempt moved all corals back
into main system in hopes to save them, i hope the survive the transition back. Will be taking rock out sat to remove sand and reaquascape, i will leave colonies loose for a few weeks while i spot dip them

Moved my corals a few days ago back into main tank. Lost one more since the move, lost about 40% of my corals mostly all my LE SPS the more fragile ones, my hardy less attractive corals are still alive, only good thing about this is i had frags of all my corals prior to the move, however they are all tiny little nubs, non the less i still have all except for my lokani, but i get one from somewhere, wow this is the longest sentence i ever wrote lol

Glad to hear you have some of the original stock left. I know these set backs seem daunting, but don't give up. Your going to beat these pests, and get your tank set up soon. Keep in mind, individually dipping the corals will not ensure that the redbugs or flat worms are eradicated. QT'ing for several weeks is the only way, and will save you a ton of time and heart-ache in the future. Keep your head up and keep us posted of your plans.

unfortunalty i tried and thigs were dieing, there is no way to plumb it to main tank so what i will do is keep my colonies loose and keeping dipping them, and hope for the best, i am hoping i can keep dipping the colonies i cut away anything that the eggs could attach too so i am hoping eventually the egs will cut back and the aefw will only be left that will be killed with dipping
