Found this guy tonight and snapped a few pics, what is it and is it reef safe?

It's a Limpet, harmless.

That name was on the tip of my tonque or in this case fingers lol, but I couldn't think of the name.

the shape looks like a limpet but I have never seen those colors ...kinda looks like snake skin on the outer rim

Now that you mention it, it looks more like a Chiton than a limpet. Do a google search on Chitons.

Ive had chitons and limpets. The chitons tend to have a fuzzy rim, and the limpets are all shell. Tough to tell, but it looks like a limpet to me...

Like everyone has said It is a chiton and they are friendly as we'll as impossible to get off unless you take a hammer to the glass

They do look neat, it must have hitchhiked from a rock

You can get the fuzzy chiton from reefcleaners.org. (that's where I got mine) it did not look anything like the picture on their website, it looks like pedros but with a fuzzy fringe.
