Hey Guys,

Look who came out to see me today on Mother's Day.
I think my pistol shrimp and watchman finally like each other!
I had only heard him, not seen him since I put him in the tank. YEA!!!

Cool! From the sound of it, I think I have a pistol shrimp someplace but I've never seen him. Maybe I'll get a goby and see if he can find him.

That is so cool. Does your pistol do a lot of earth moving? I know SaltyUnderground's can turnover a ridiculous amount of sand in no time. I'm curious to know if the tiger's move more than the randalli's.

He does quite a little work in the night, but he is only, say about, an inch long so it's not much in the big picture. The most I have seen him do are the tunnel like entrances around the base of two adjacent rocks that he lives under. So there will be tunnels coming out of a few places, then a few days later those are all mounded over and there are a few new tunnels out from under the same rocks.

Last night he mounded over the opening that the watchman has always used to go in and out of his little rocky cave, the watchman got out from some other spot and then went around to the front and used his tail to swish away and open up his entrance again.

The funniest part was the little pistol pinching at the watchman's tail and fins as he tried to grab for food and the watchman didnt bat an eyelash, if anyone else even looks twice at the watchman he beelines it for his cave. So they must be buddies.

I saw a very cool looking tiger goby at Beldts yesterday. It would make a great fish to go with a pistol shrimp. I had never seen that fish before.

My pair are going to a new home (Becky) hopefully by July! I have a love hate relationship with them. My shrimp moved mountains yesterday, reinforcing my desire to send them some where else (Becky). But my husband is making me feel guilty for thinking about sending them away (to Becky).

How big is your pistol, a tiger right? Wonder if I have the same in store for myself, as soon as he gets a little bigger. I know I read that some pistols are particular about which goby they take to, and vice verca.

My pistol is a tiger and it's pretty big. Probably 2 inches plus.

I have no idea how long they live. We have one in another display tank that is about 5 years old. We never see it and it does not appear to move anything around. We hear it snap a lot though. It does not have a shrimp goby.

I think the addition of the fish is what seems to cause the movement of substrate. The fish needs a hole to swim in and out. In my tank, the fish digs out the hole and the pistol makes it bigger.

Huh - after reading this thread, I am feeling a sudden and strong urge to adopt Lisa's pistol shrimp and YWG...
