Frogspawn care

Hello,

I have a frogspawn and it looks shriveled. I have had for last few years and it used to be really big but for the last couple of months it seems to have shrunk. I have one large piece and one smaller both from the same lineage. They both appear to be like that. I have another frogspawn of a different kind and that seems to be fine.

Alk - 8.1 Mag 1360 & Ca - 420

Any idea why this is happening?

arvind.

None whatsoever. Frogspawn remained in the same location for last couple of years. Even survived sandy and few other disasters. Lighting also no change.

Here is an image. This used to be twice this size.

Did you clean your Power Heads lately?

I cleaned mine and the Flow doubled as it was so dirty.

My Frogspawn shriveled up right away ater I cleaned the PH's.

yeah, i have a lot of aiptasia. they come and go every once in a while. I guess i should try to get rid of them. The problem is i have a 180g and it takes a lot of peppermint to do a clean job.

Anyone picking at it? Not sure it this is true but I was told once dosing iodine would help with lps, maybe look at the iodine level in your salt.

How long has it been like this? Mine was all retracted for about 5 or 6 days for no discernible reason. Then yesterday it started to puff up again.

I feed it either Mysis shrimp, or just grab a shrimp from the deli and cut it up into very small pieces. I've learned that when you think you have the piece small enough, make it smaller. :D

Last night I tried something I read on another post - Formula 2 pellets. My corals did seem to hold onto these small pellets much better than mysis or cyclops that I've tried. But I'm not convinced it's good to give them something with "wheat flour" on the ingredient list (although it is somewhat far down the list).

I have been using Marine Snow, which I thought was good for all corals, but then I heard that frogspawn and similar LPS don't really use this type of food, they should have meaty foods. They do seem to respond when I spot feed them that, but I guess that doesn't mean they are absorbing it.

I use Coral Smoothie, Rod's, & ON Prime Reef. All of these seem to work well for my LPS. I have Marine Snow but I don't notice the corals perking up like they do when I feed other stuff. I run in spurts w/ feeding them, sometimes a few times a week & other times not at all since they get the leftovers from the fish that are floating around.

I have used the Formula 2 pellets before. Used to have an open brain coral that I fed it to. It had more than doubled its size. Never had any issues.
