Frogspawn dying overnight!

Komfortable

Came downstairs this morning to find my frogspawn looking like this!

Last time I looked at it (yesterday afternoon) everything was fine, and it was very full and healthy looking. All other corals look fine, including its closest neighbor, a hammer. No clue what's happened here.

I have noticed each year when the temps rise outside, the euphyllia seems to be the first to suffer in only 1 degree of difference. Just one mans observations.

I suppose that could be a cause, but I haven't observed a temp change. I'm not using any sort of controller, however, so there's no saying that it didn't warm up a bit yesterday.

Checked params just now. Everything seemed to be in line, with the exception of 'trites. After some research it seems like my UV could be causing this. I forgot to turn it off after running it a couple of weeks ago. I had moved a couple rocks around and wanted to make sure that I minimized any affects from stirring things up. Never turned it off and it's been running 24/7 for at least 2 weeks. Could it be the high nitrites that caused this?

Could it be the high nitrites that caused this?

It depends on how high the nitrites are but I think it's more likely that all the beneficial bacteria in the water column being killed by the UV which in turn could mean ammonia not being converted into nitrates and so harming/killing the corals.

I recently had the same problem. I couldn't figure it out because my parameters were great. I woke up early one morning and saw one of my peppermint shrimp ripping my frogspawn apart like flowers "she loves me.....she loves me not" [emoji255]. I brought the shrimp back to my LFS and both my frogspawn and torch were fully back with new growth after 3 weeks

This is the second FS this has happened to. Maybe some hermits are eating them or something, I dunno. It was completely gone later that day. I mean 100%.

i have found that the red hermit crabs with white spots on legs like to eat frogspawn. I removed the crabs and all is good.

I do have some red hermits, but I didn't see them near this FS. Last time a added a FS I did see hermits eating it. I removed all offenders to the sump and added this one. Didn't see any hermits so much as notice it was there. Maybe I just missed it happening this time. Ugh. I like having hermits (most of the time) but maybe it's time to remove them. I really like all euphyllia and would like to add more. The hermits don't touch my hammer, just frogspawn and torch.

I haven't been able to keep a single euphillia alive in my tank. Zoos, palys, shrooms, acans, no problem. Just this one family of corals seems to hate me. I wonder if it is the temp. Makes a lot of sense, not that there is much I can do about it.
