Frogspawn Endangered?

So I think I read somewhere that frogspawn corals are now an endangered species? So no more collection of them? I was just wondering if this is the common purple and green frogspawn? Thanks in advance for replys

No, it's a scam by some anti-collection organizations and sea shepherd who have decided to start an assault on the hobby by declaring a bunch of corals endangered even though the "scientists" who said so haven't dove once in those areas. They don't want to attack the causes of declining reefs like unsustainable deforestation, wastewater runoff, trawling, destruction of reefs for construction materials and climate changes because those things are hard and don't make them money. To put it bluntly, they realized attacking us can get them donations because they are manipulative low-lives.

It's basically a smear campaign. If you donate to companies that promote animal rights causes like sea shepherd and peta, this is where your money is going. They're making good headway in Hawaii by making up a bunch of stuff and fabricating "science" there too.

It's just the Vietnamese imported frogspawn (in fact most VN shipments) that are an issue at the moment. The fact is VN has had it's CITES permit put on hold due to uncontrolled coral harvesting issues. A colorful purple frogspawn from a specific area is the main reason. At least that is what the trade importers are saying at the moment.

I still see a million unwanted frogspawn colonies at the LFS's here. There is no shortage of them, and they seem to keep coming in on the shipments regardless if they're selling or not.

That's weird, I thought Vietnam didn't have CITES for hard corals for a long time now due to that whole rampant overharvesting thing a while back.

I'll retract my earlier post. Looks like frogspawn just hit the endangered species list today. Please refer to my post in this forum and the SPS forum about the news.

It's on the "endangered" list but as of now it's at the lowest level NT-IUCN. Which is "near threatened".
