Frogspawn growth

Hey all,

I have a beautiful little stalk of frogspawn in my tank, and it is doing very well thus far. I noticed yesterday that near the base of the tissue there are these little bumps formed in a perfect circle, there are about 6-8 of them that go all around the stalk. I probably would not have noticed these but I have been watching this coral lately because I was almost sure that the tissue was growing further down the stalk instead of receding (thankfully). Could these be new branches that are starting to form? I hope to get a picture up this evening, that will probably help with the answer im guessing.

most likely that is what they are.

i don't have a branching frogspawn, but i do have a branching hammer, and all the new heads tend to start near the bottom of the stalk. still in the living tissue, not on the "dead" rock is has grown from. they typically start out looking like little buds, then in a few days to weeks, open up in to miniature little hammer heads.

if you could get a decent pic, that could help cinch a definitive identification.

I have seen this several times on my frogspawn and on hammers, those little bumps are buds that will form a new head of frogspawn. The tissue that stretched down will recede after a short time but do not be alarmed the bud will not need it at this point.

Based on my experience they seem to do this when they begin to be running out of room to split, and this way they can grow out in a new direction.
