Frogspawn Lighting Requirements

Here is a noob question.

What are the lighting requirements to keep frogspawn?

I have two 26w 6500k CF and two 50/50 20w CF. Is this enough to keep frogspawn? Thanks.

Are they toward the top of your tank or at the bottom? I have all my frogspawn and hammer corals under VHO and MH. I also recommend a minimum of 3watts per gal of tank. This is not an exact science but a good recommendation. Tank depth will also have to be taken into consideration. As the deeper the tank the less light will reach the bottom to sustain life.

i think if you upped it to 10,000k u'd be better off, keep it close to the top as well...

It's a little ten gallon tank, but the coral are on the bottom. I do have two 50/50 CF with 10k but each bulb is only 20watts. The rest of the light is from two GE CF at 6500k. It seems to be a moot point. My peppermint shrimp got into it and has eaten three quarters of it. Nothing I read anywhere said peppermint shrimp would do that. It's irritating as wel that he's passing on the aptasia in the tank to eat the frogspawn. I'm very close to snatching him out of the tank and giving him a swirly at this point.

I've never heard of a Peppermint eating a frogspawn. Mine actually uses my frogspawn for cover. I'm not saying it can't happen, but most likely the frogspawn was on it's way out and he started eating the dying parts of the coral.

I just got a hold of a pair of books by Ronald L. Shimek called a poket Exper tGuide for marine invertebrates and fish. The frogspawn entry lists the Lysmata shrimps as possible predators. I then turned to the entries on Lysmata and voila, they sometimes prey on small polyped corals. Where was this yesterday? Darn...

Yes, you can - I had the branching kind in Nano-Cube 6 g (the height is similar to your tank) under 18W 50-50 PC, until it started to sting neighbors:

I have my frog under 192 watts of pc in my 40 gallon, placed mid-tank. Seems to be quite happy.

That shrimp would be dead right now if that were my tank. Get rid of the shrimp and try another frogspawn if that one doesn't make it. Your lights are fine.

The shrimp has been caught and banished to the refugium. I now have a branching hammer with two heads in there and it's opened up quite nicely. Thanks for all the input and help guys. I think I'm gonna declare this thread closed at this point. Everyone I've talked to (professionals) have sounded surprised a pepermint shrimp went after the frogspawn. but I assure you both my wife and I watched him as he polished it off. Anyway, no more pepermint shrimp for me. That little guy didn't even touch the aptasia I have so I guess my only other option there is joe's juice. Thanks again guys.
