Frogsprawn, Hammer, and Favia Question.

This question applies to those who have/had cared for the following LPS coral. What tips/advice could you offer someone who just purchased these species. This is my first time venturing into the LPS species.

Lighting is Metal Halide so that isn't an issue and all parameters are in check.

Thanks.

Be careful that they don't get too much light. Many people find their frogspawn do better when not high in the tank and directly under the mh. Frogspawns and hammers are some of my favorite and I am starting to get into favia. I should mention that I assumed the mh was a 250 or higher, but looking at the tank it is probably not. What wattage is it? Keep the calcium up and the flow good and you should have a great time with these. Enjoy!

I feel that feeding LPS is very important. I feed mine a small amount of mysis soaked in selcon every other day.

I usually feed mine every other day also. With cyclopeeze, phytoplankton, and sometimes phytofeast. Been seeing good results and just remember the frogspawn, goniopora, or alveopora wont expand all the way unless the flow is perfect, they like very light flow though and certain ones like alveopora doesnt require such lighting. Hope that helps.

Favia are reported to be very tolerant of all sorts of different lighting. I find mine do change colors in my tank. I don't know if that is their way of adapting to different lighting or says something about my water quality..

ive had my favia for about a year and a half with no problems. actually, it has been through some serious situations, lol. its a brilliant purple and green specimen. a lucky find soon after i started my tank. its been doing fine on its own without target feeding or anything.

hopes this helps. take your time and find a cool colored one. they are out there...

Well, my New(er) Favia appears to be trying out different suits of clothes for my tank. It went from green with brick red polyps to pale green with brown. Now it has orange polyps. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Matthew
PS,
Have you submitted a pic on the Favia thread? I'd love to see yours.
