I had a saltwater fish tank that I dismantled a few years ago and used the same stones and sand for a freshwater fish tank.
Now I decide to go back to salt water using the same sand and stone, since at the beginning it was my set up of salt water. (I rinsed and cleaned everything)
Is it possible that freshwater nitrifying bacteria survived from one fish tank to another? It have been about two weeks since I started the cycle and the parameters are as follows:
ammonia was between .25 and .50 for a couple days, now it's between .0 and .25
nitrites = 0
nitrates = 20ppm
(For start the cycle I used the shrimp method, used 2 shrimps and the shrimps are stills in the water) the tank a 72g bowfront and a 55g sump
