From sumpless to sump?

Well I'm moving, which means bigger tank, which means old tank is becoming a simple sump. I'm looking for the simplest way to do this.
The new tank is going to be a 50/58/65 (something 36" long) and the old one is 29. All I really want to do is put the 29 underneath in the stand, drain into it, put a skimmer in the tank and a mag pump or something similar to it (a submerged pump) to pump the water back up, with a valve in the tank drain to match the pump flow.
Can I do it that simply? Or is there more stuff that I need to do. I don't need 30,000 optional things. I just want extra water volume and a place for a skimmer. Do I need to baffle the tank or something else?

You do not want to put a valve in the drain to match the pump flow. That will not work. Get the tank drilled with a standpipe or overflow box. But yeah, my sump now is a 29 gallon underneath a 65. The pumps and skimmer just sit in it. The outelt from the drain and the skimmer are on one side, the skimmer acts as a baffle, and the pumps on the other side. Simple. The one thing I would change on mine, is to make sure the sump can be removed. The way my stand was made, the stand had to be placed over the top of the sump. No getting it out to clean the sump:mad: .

A dedicated compartment for your skimmer is a good idea. You could have this spill into another compartment with a DSB and macros. Then into a compartment for your return pump. WWW.melevsreef.com has some awesome sump designs.
