FS/FT: Green Brittle Star

Hi all,

I recently bought a green brittle star (Ophiarachna incrassata) without properly researching and finding that it is not suited for my tank. I have several small fish and small shrimp and this star is known to eat small fish and shrimps that hang around rocks.

He has not eaten anything at this point. I keep him fat and happy with silversides but I do not want to risk losing a chromis out of my school.

I have him in my refugium at this point. He is healthy and eats well. He is a great looking star.

I would like to see him in a tank where he can thrive and not have to be constantly watched. I have not seen any documented occasions where one harmed any coral.

If you are interested in this guy please let me know. I would like $15 or a trade of equal value.

For your information here is an article with a section on Ophiarachna incrassata. Scroll down a ways and you will see the image.

Thanks.

We have adopted 6 of these stars for the same reason, they live in a tank by themselves.

It's a shame that some places will sell them with out informing you of the potential danger.

BTW your link does not appear to be working

I have caught a group of 4 green brittle stars in my 180 reef 6-7 years ago eating my pulsing xenia. I couldnt figure out why the xenia was starting to look "melted" and finally one night late I woke up and flashlighted the tank, they were grabbing it and pulling it up from the rocks using the legs. Xenia has a pretty foul odor to it, so I suspect they may think its dead and thats why they can go dor it and no other corals?

Yeah, I have read about them climbing above fish that hang out in the rocks at night and dropping in on them like a ninja! With the force that the takes silversides away from me I can believe that it would be impossible for a small fish to get away.

Fortunately I didnt have any problems with him devouring anything. I only had him in there for about two weeks before I learned what he was. Cool star but not worth having to check the tank every morning to take a head count!

If anyone is interested let me know. I just want him to go to a good home where he can thrive.

Thanks
