It stings the nostrils
ever since I went with t-5's and a open top tank my chiller doesn't even turn on anymore, so I'm going to put it up for sale.

1/4 hp JBJ chiller $300.00 its in great condition used for about a year.

heres a pic, I've had a lot of interest from out of town, but I'd like to sell this locally.

Do you think this would be overkill on my 24 gal. Cardiff?
probably, but its better to go bigger than smaller. that way when it turns on and cools it gets done quicker and shuts off, if your undersized then it will run a lot longer.

totally agree...my bff had a smaller one and it ran all the time. got a bigger one and now its hardly on...besides if you ever upgrade your tank you wont have to upgrade you chiller !!!!!:celeb3:

I went to the JBJ web-site and the link for showing what size chiller to use on various size tanks was nonfunctional.
Is there a rule of thumb on how to determine what size chiller is recommended for various gallons of water?

I don't really know, different manufacturers rate their stuff differently. I ran this on my 100g and then my 150g and it worked great on both tanks. on the 100g it took my tank down from 87 to 80 with no problems. it only turned on a couple of times a day.

From what I recall, most 1/10th chillers are rated for right around 100g of water volume. It depends on the temp your tank runs at and how many degrees you want to bring it down from. A larger chiller will work less to keep it at a lower temp.

Bump for a good deal!
