finally broke down and got an aquacontroller, so i no longer need the temperature controller i've been using.
it's just like this one: medusa dual stage

except it's an older model that does not display out to 1/10 of a degree. it has 2 outlets on it, you plug a fan/chiller/whatever into one and a heater into the other. set the temperature you want it to hold and it manages the two. it's much safer and more accurate than relying on timers on a fan and the heater's internal thermostat, plus it keeps them from fighting each other and saves you a bit of electricity.
it has an audible alarm for when it gets outside the set range, but i 'disabled' it a while ago. i can't afford to keep my temp set dead on, so my tank was pretty much always back and forth on the boarderline of setting off the alarm. i can re-enable it, but to tell the truth it wasn't loud enough to be a good alarm, more of a 'you barely hear it for an hour before you realize what it is'.
now, i'll be the first person to say to spend the extra money and get an aquacontroller/reefkeeper instead, since it'll do sooooo much more. which is why i'm not asking much for it- $65. locals only.
