Fuge over a sump

Morning all,

I would like to start a fuge, problem is I am out of sump space. I am batting around ideas on how to make it work. I've come up with basically building a small shelf above the sump and using some kind of rubbermaid bowl or a very small aquarium, maybe a 3 gal if I can find one.

Anyway, has anyone ever done something like this? I am sure people have, if so I would like to see how ya did it.

I think I'd do a 5g at least... :) Really it depends upon what you're wanting to use your Fuge for??? If its to propogate Macro in order to export excess nutrients, you'll want a bit more space than 3g... If its only to keep copepods and other beneficial critters then the 3g should be fine... :)

I think AquaFuge has one of the simplest designs... In fact you might be better off purchasing one than making it yourself... A small pump pushes water into the fuge, then overflows into the "refugium area" which overflows back into the return for the tank...

This is the hang on back version, but you can see how it could be adapted into what you're wanting it for...

That is a nice design, a bit too much though. I just want something simply, it will be for nutrient export only. Nothing fancy.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I have a 5gal fuge that overflows into my 20H right now. That setup will be down soon when i transfer to my 40B.
