Just wondering what you guys are using for your fuge/sump lighting. pictures would be a plus. I'm going to work on upgrading my sump, Its just extra water at the moment. Thinking of putting some chaeto and or caulerpa in there to help with the algea in the tank. Should i put a piece of rock in also? doesnt have to be live? Reason for all this is im battleing bubble algea that has gotten way way out of hand and hair algea. Any and all suggestions would be great. Ill be heading to Newark Premium Aquatics later this weekend to get some chaeto and or caulerpa, hope they have it. Take care all

Thanks Lee

I use a 75W (I think)compact flourecent light from Home depot. I also got a clamp and a shield for like $12 total.

I wouldn't buy Cheato from a LFS, there's too much for free on here just for asking.

How big is your seump? I got an old 36" PC unit not doing anything but collecting dust at the moment and I probably have some cheato ready for harvesting if you need it.

They have it. I use a 16 watt CF.
Craig are you sure its 75 watt CF? Seems like a high watts for CF. I think it might be an Incandescent bulb.

Craig/Al;
It's probably a 75W equivalent ... marketing gimick. They're really 18-24W devices, but they put out about the same as a 75W incandescent.

Lee;
I use the same thing as Craig. Clamp-on work light with a CF in it. Works great. And if you want some chaeto, I have some for you. Although you'll probably find some closer. I'm almost in PA.

thats got to be it.

I also use the clip on light and mine is a 75W equivalent. The one thing to look for when buying the bulb is that it list the kelvin rating. Look for 6500K. There should be 1 or 2 like that but be carefull of the garden grow bulbs. A lot of them are 3500K.

Yeah - that's what I meant. I tried to look at the bulb, but it was on and I could only see little white circles for an hour, so I just guessed.

try it again .... if you close your eyes and really concentrate, you can make out the writing on the bulb right around the 45 minute mark ...

Im in the prossese of building a 20gallon long Im just waiting for the baffles to set up.

So if I understand you guys, It really doesnt matter what type of light i get? What matters is the Kelvin rating? 6500k Thanks alot for your input. Ill look online at home depo and see what i can find. Ill post back again to make sure I dont get the wrong light.

Won't set up on their own. ;-)

Try posting in this forum, as well as reading through the stickies. Lots of good information there. I would also try to look for some articles on the types of algae you want to grow.(I'd suggest chaetomorph over there others, but that is up to you.)
