Function of a Skimmer

I can not find a protein skimmer for the size of my tank (2.5g) I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the Skimmer works and what is consisted inside of the skimmer.

You won't find a skimmer for a tank that small. Water changes is how you will get excess nutrients out of the tank. Skimmers take junk out of the water column by what is called fractionation. The garbage in the water floats on the bubbles produced by the skimmer and then they go into what is called a collection cup and tossed.

that is the laymans terms. there are others that can give you a better more scientific explanation.

Mangroves will also remove nutrients from your nano, its just another option. You could just buy the smallest skimmer you can find although the small skimmers available really suck so I would just rely on WC like pat suggested
