In home aquaria usually old dead skeletal remains produce anthocauli or live rock that has some anthocauli type bud from a larva settlement pre wild collection. The anthocauli continue to produce clones in an ongoing fashion, one drops off a new one starts growing.
From the time the coral dies I have waited up to 18 months for new anthocauli to appear. I have one at the moment that the coral has partially died and new anthocauli have already appeared in around a month so it seems quite variable.
The new corals grow quite quick from the anthocauli fed well you can grow a new fungia every 3-4 months.
