Funky Fuge - What to do?

Nothing to see Move along
I have a fuge question...

My sump/fuge is 3 stage with the first stage with Protein Skimmer, the second a fuge and the third the return pump.

I have Live Rock, Mud & Chaeto in my fuge. There is also some hair algae growing in the fuge in various places. There are tons of sponges and critters also living in the chaeto.

Over the past month, I have seen this scum collecting on the top.

Is this something to be concerned about? How do you get rid of it?

Thanks.

might be worth putting a small powerhead in the fuge to get the surface of the water moving around to keep the scum for building

What he said ;-)

If you dont get some oxygenation going that will just get worse until it kills the other stuff.

Also, how old is your fuge light? Are you running it 24/7? If so you may need to replace your lamp. This is something that often gets overlooked, but is crucial to keeping your algae happy. The gasses in your sump lamp degrade just like your tank bulbs do, and like your display tank, as time goes by the spectrum will shift and there will be less useable light for your algae. I change my fuge bulbs every 3 months religiously and have no issues with hair algae or nusiance scum.

Just another suggestion!
Cheers~!

Fuge light is old. It is an NVision 6500 16W compact flourescent.

Is that a good light for a fuge?
