funny stuff in tank

I just got home from being gone for the weekend and my tank has been slimed. It is light green, translucent, and stringing all over the place with a big glob in the corner. The big glob was about as big around as my thumb and 3 inches long.

So what the heck is it? All I have in this tank is mushrooms, some sponges, 3 fish, couple of snails, and an emerald crab. I did a 25% water change Fri. and I have not checked the water yet...

If it grew that fast it probably is a bacteria. You should be able to suck it out. Did you feed anything to get the tank through the weekend?

No, I fed it as usual before I left yesterday morning. I was really only gone from noon Sat. to now.

We had storms come through and your power may have been out for quite a while. Maybe that did it.

Nope, my mom lives with me. No outages. In my experience, a bacteria bloom would be cloudiness in the whole tank. Please explain why you came up with this diagnosis.

If I had something in the tank that was reproducing, I would think that. Gelatanous material that would hold strings of eggs, but none noted.

sounds like a snail died, they can make a really gooey clear slime
