Fuse

Curt,
One of my DC4HD's suddenly does not power up (i've tried it in different outlets, and in manual control i dont hear the on/off 'click').
I suspect it may be the fuse (although i dont know why it would suddenly blow as I have not changed anything).
Can I order replacement fuses from you?
Thanks,
Albert

Yes, we have replacement fuses; they are $1.35. The fuse in the DC4 is a 5x20mm, 120V, 10 Amps, and the fuse in the DC4HD or DC8 is a 5x20mm, 120V, 15 Amps.

Curt

please send me 2. i believe you should have my address and credit card on file.
otherwise PM me for the info.

Curt,
I noticed that if I unplug and replug the DC4HD in the outlet, I hear a switch sound from the DC4HD, but none of the outlets on the DC4HD have any power and I can't manually switch any of them using the controller.
If it is indeed a blown fuse, as I suspected, should I still be hearing a switch when plugging it in?

Yes, that is what I would expect with a blown outlet fuse. There are two fuses in the direct connect boxes. One small one to power the internal electronics, and the other one to power the outlets.

Curt

thanks.
(i assume you sent me the one for the outets).
that is the one i see when i open the case? (i've changed on once on a regular DC4)

Curt, I received the fuses on saturday (11/26) - thank you very much.
I replaced it yesterday (such a pain getting in there to replace it, but i eventually got it).
Funny thing is, at the end of the day, i dont think it was even a blown fuse. After i replaced it, it still didnt work. I unplugged and replugged it in, and then it worked, and then it stopped working again. I again unplugged and replugged the DC4HD as well as the ACjr, and now everything works. May have just needed to be reset somehow i guess.
Thanks again Curt for getting those fuses over to me so fast.
Regards,
Albert

Hey,

I'm having the same problem with my dc8 as alrha was with his dc4. I hadn't been using my dc8 for more than a month and I tried to get it working again but can't. Curt do you know what could be happening. Everything alrha discribed is happening with my dc8 and my light is constantly red.

Paul

Paul, i just unplugged and replugged it back it (and reset my GFCI).
Funny thing happened last night, i noticed all my lights shut, then just one came back on and stayed on till even after it was supposed to shut. i tried to manually turn things on and off, but the DC4s did not respond. They were receiving power (as the light was on) but did not respond to commands. i then 'reset' the GFCI and everything worked fine again.
dont know what would cause that - just happy it didnt happen when i was away.

Alrha - Thanks for the info.

I took down my tank so I stopped using my dc8 for a while. I continued to use my acII to monitor water conditions in my rock tub. I tried to get it working again last nigt because my fish are back in the tank out of quarantine and it won't now. My red light is on, I open it up to check the fuse (only saw one) and it was good, but it won't blink (communicate). Right now I'm a little frustrated/annoyed that it won't work (or my acII won't work) and I can't help the situation. I have no idea whats wrong or how to troubleshoot it.

ok, it happened again tonight.
When my second halide turns one, all 3 DC4HDs shut everything off (except for the halide that turned on) and dont respond to commands from the AC jr till i 'reset' them all and and reset the AC jr.
Curt, any ideas?

Albert, please give me a call tomorrow 408-578-3022 when you are in front of your controller, and I'll go over your confiruation with you.
kimoyo, I suspect that you are using a telephone cord with only two wires in it. The AquaController to DCx cord should have 4 wires internally, and they should "cross-over".

Curt

thanks curt. till what time are you there?

in the meanwhile i just left that one plug un-plugged and everything works fine, if i plug it back in, as soon as that bulb turns on, the other two GFCI's trip and that DC4HD becomes unresponsive.

It sounds like something is wrong with the ballast if the GFIC is tripping. I'm in the office until about 5:30 or 6:00 PST.

Curt

but it is not the GFCI of the bulb that turned on that trips, it is the other one that trips.

I don't think this is it. I was using the cord provided by neptune that has 4 wires. And to check I got a telephone cord with 4 wires and it still doesn't work. I'm will give you a call.

I suspect that arcing could cause a great deal of EMI to be radiated especially on the high frequency ballast/light side. If significant enough, the EMI could cause the GFIC to trip, and cause digital electronics to behave erratically. Definitely fix that connector on the ballast as it is a fire hazard.

Curt

Thanks for your help, as always, Curt. I am happy this was cleared up and that your product was not at fault here.

I am definitely not going to run this till i replace the connector or figure something else out.

as a side q, is it called a "GFCI" or "GFIC"? (i know some also just call it a "GFI"). I always thought it was Ground Fault Circuit Interupter (GFCI) but i see you write GFIC and i'm guessing its not just a typo.
