I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this fuzzy stuff in my live rock is? I have uploaded two photos but it is still hard to see. I was wondering if there is any inverts that will eat it.
It's hard to be certain from the photos, but it looks a sponge to me. Possibly a bacterial mat, but most likely a sponge. You should be able to remove it with a toothbrush.
I fought that crap for a long time--over a year. I had an established tank do a mini crash while on vacation and that stuff took off. In the end changing my source of H2O from my personal RO system to the big commercial one at the natural grocer and installing a small carbon and gfo filter in my sump cleared it all up. It took about a month or two to get rid of it and it's been about 18 months now of bliss.
