FWRI opens its doors for the 21st annual MarineQuest
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) has fun down to a science with hands-on demonstrations and exciting displays for its annual MarineQuest open house. The public is invited to explore Florida's fish and wildlife and their habitats at the open house Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at FWRI's headquarters on Tampa Bay (100 8th Ave. S.E., in downtown St. Petersburg).
Visitors will get an exclusive peek into the latest research of world-renowned scientists.
MarineQuest is a free event featuring over 60 exhibits from FWRI and other government agencies and conservation groups. Held in conjunction with the St. Petersburg Science Festival, MarineQuest offers fun for the whole family.
Attendees of MarineQuest 2015 can see, and even touch, live sharks, rays, alligators and a variety of Florida's top inshore sport fish. Step through a magnifying glass and discover coral reefs through the eyes of a tiny crustacean. MarineQuest offers visitors a host of other fun activities including an augmented reality sandbox, archery, woodcarving, wildlife origami, face painting and "œgyotaku," the art of Japanese fish printing.
Free event parking is available at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg parking garage at the corner of 5th Ave. S. and 3rd St. S.
