Nice mantis fella! Is that a sharpened chopstick I see in there? I just recently stopped using them to feed and now have found the wonders of wooden skewers which are longer and keep my hands nice and dry.
So where does a G.playsoma hail from orginally?
Cheers,
Brian

and how did you acquire it? im in the market for a new stomatopod, so info is greatly appreciated.

I am lucky enough to have two mantis friendly stores nearby. I don't know how you would go about ordering one specifically though.

If you had the desire to pursue it, you could check with Tropical Paradise, a Bay Area retail store that frequently gets in mantises and also has a coral mail order option on their website (look in the sponsor forums here at RC). If you tried talking to them about shipping they might help you work something out. Though the owner, Eddie, just left for Tonga to do some business - so you might not get an answer right away.

good luck. But I may suggest, in my limited experience, that as pets the ternatensis are the best I have had so far. The G. p. seems to be much more reclusive.

I have a juvenile platysoma and he's my fav out of the three type mantis I have. He is always busy, and always working moving sand out of his den. He will also swim around freely looking for food or whatever he is doing. When I do water changes or macro trimming, he will just sit in his den door and watch me. He's a cool lil' dude.
