Any suggestions on places to find one of these guys/gals. Most sites I find just list mantis by colors.

The one LFS here I contacted thought I was crazy asking about a mantis. They said they always kill them... :(

most LFS will say that, and they usually do! I'd check liveaquaria.com's divers den from time to time they have different mantis shimps there and you can acctually see what you get before you buy it!

The best LFS knew I was looking for one and after about a year they had one hitchhike in so I got it for free. :)

I know that doesn't really help but that's my story!

kinda sad how people hate mantis shrimp, eh, i'd be mad too if something killed my fish, but dang! lemme have the little guy! :D

once in the LFS in my area i go to, this one guy asked the employee "Who would buy that thing?" while pointing at a little green p. ciliata, and he simply said "Those guys" while pointing at my father and i! XD we became notorious at that place for having mantis shrimp!

Mantis Pride Everybody! lol, <<< this needs to become a T-Shirt!

btw, this is the same LFS that had a G. Smithii

Recently, an employee caught an N. Wennarae in his tank (1 inch) so he brought it in to sell it instead of killing it, even though the little guy destroyed his cleanup crew! so i think it's still there

yea i found my by luck as well.

my LFS told me that he had a "baby" peacock.

turned ou to be a pretty darn mature G.Smithii. sure do love the lil guy.

he "fronted" on me yesterday. i was checkin out my tank when he charged the glass, opened his arms real wide and started bobing and shaking.

oh man it was funny.:D

but as far as finding one, it not like any place sells any specific species, and half the time their not the species they told you it was.

i think its cruella... who has like 6 mantis shrimp of varying size and species, and every time she's ordered a peacock.

luck of the draw i guess.

Yeah I agree, getting a specific species is a hard thing to do, so if possible you should get it from someone who knows stomatopods or go in and see it yourself.

I think the best way to get one would be just ask around the LFSs and let em know you're interested. They might get a hitcher on an offc chance or (rarely) be able to order one. although even if they say they can order species specific... well its usually iffy at best for that.
