G3 vs G3pro

Hi

I would like your opinion on this topic. I currently have 10 G1 and i want to make the switch to G3 since a couple of fans started to fail.

is it worth it the 100 $ difference between G3 and the G3Pro? I was also considering having 5 G3 and 5 G3pro.

Thanks!

Typically speaking, the Pro's are for tanks that have a height greater than 36".

For most pro's are not necessary, but like you said "It's just $100 more"....of course in your case is $1,000.00 when buying 10 of them.

I don't think it would be a good idea in general to mix and match the standard model with pro's simply because if you have them all running on the same program, then the Pro's will be putting out about 14% more than the G3's will because they have 20 more total watts of power. So unless there is a specific need for this, or they are running separate programs, I think I'd stick with one or the other for all 10.

What dimensions is your tank?
What corals are you planning to keep?

My tank is already running and has been for 4 years. It is 8 foot long, 28' hight, 32 wide fully stock with sps. I have 10 g1 at the moment.

So i think i will go with 10 g3.

I have a 84x32x30 with 8 Standard G3's and it has plenty, so I'd say 10 is overkill and pro's just not necessary at only 28" of depth.

Sorry to hijack I just put two pro's on a 48x28x16 tank. As you can see jot that deep. Should I leave it as is or spread the light with some wide angle lenses? Also if I can I would assume Dr. Big can get fewer G3 pro's and use the wide angle lenses? Thanks

on a tank that shallow, using wade angle lenses would give you better color blending (not that the blending is bad in the 1st place) and would give you the ability to to move higher up the intensity level for a more illuminated look.

Tanks a lot for your answer.

I think the same so i will go with G3. I regards of the program, i think i will do the same as i have with the G1. How should i start if i was running at 100%? 75%??

Prob best to start out at the 75% as you will not only be adding additional power, but also UV. You could go ahead and set program that you have now with full intensity being 100%, and then make use of the acclimation feature, set it for 6 weeks and monitor how it goes.

I was worried about the Uv. DO you set this channel at 100% or lower? how long?
