G4 + ASM skimmer?

I have the ASM g4 skimmer.......is getting the sedra 9000 a good idea?
will it work that much better?

I have the G4+ with the 9000 - it works great I have read threads that the original g4 pump was not powerful enough. Also did the gate mod and the recirc mod. Highly recommended.

What exactly is the point of the gate valve mod?

The gate valve mod allows easier and more precise control of the water level in the skimmer.

gate vavle mod lets you adjust the height of the h20 a lot better & more precisely. Instead of the tube you slide up/down with the foam stuff on the eng the gate valve determines the heigth of the h20 inside the skimmer.

The Sedra 9000 moves almost twice as much water as the Sedra 5000. You would notice a considerable difference in performance.
