Gag reflex?

When my sea horse exhibits a behavior that can only be described as a "gag" reflex... what does that mean? I watched this intently as I was trying to make sure he was eating/hunting... and he would do a gag type behavior pretty consistently while hunting. (NOT when actually consuming food)

he could be consuming something too small for you to see clearly, like small copepods. I think what you are describing as a gag reflex is the use of the trigger in snicking food. Watch him when he eats his mysis and see if he uses the same behavior.
Also, make sure the trigger (the triangle bit of flesh under the base of the snout) is able to move freely and isn't stuck down - where you see the triangle all the time, and isn't stuck up - where you wouldn't see it come down even when eating.
