Gapeing clam?

I have what I believe is a crocea clam, and I have a question.

Well here's the picture,

I've had the clam for about 5 days, seems to be doing well, but the inhalent(?) siphon seem to gape open pretty wide. Tank parms are fine 400ppm Ca, 10 dKH, salinity 1.023, temp 80F etc. I noticed that it only looks like it is gapeing open (so much so that you can see some of the internals) when the MH are on. When lights out and only actinics it doesn't do that. The tank is a 72 gal BF with 2 x 96watt PC actinics and 2 x 250 watt 10KK MH. It is about 12" below the surface and the MH are 10" above the surface. One thing that occured to me is that the LFS tank I bought it from was lit only by PC's and it was more than 12" below the surface.

So clam experts, is it getting to much light? Should I move it down? Will it adapt where it is at?

TIA for your advice.

That is not what we call "gaping". Nothing wrong with what you see there. Gaping is when the mantle pulls away from the shell and you can see between the shell and the mantle.
