A clam with a gaping intake isn't a healthy sign is it? Whats reason as to and does it automatically spell its demise? If there are any possible remedies what would they be?
IMO gapping can be caused by some sort of stress. As far as it dying, not true in all cases. I have had a crocea for 3 months that has been gapping and has attached to LR and extends his mantles very nicely and retracts to shadows. We all the clams I get in I have found out that Crocea seem to gap more than the others. Seldom lose them.
The inlet is larger than normal. The inlet is where the flow of water is taken in to filter through the gills. Normally is will be a slit and not a wide opening which is called gapping.
