Garden eel

A friend of mine picked me up a garden eel yesterday as he knew I had been looking for one. Apparantlly the store had it for quite awhile and was keeping it in a tank with no substrate for the past month approx. It appears it has forgotten how to burrow itself. Any suggestions on helping this guy out? I had one in my previous setup and that one had no problems at all.

It could be that his tail is damaged. I would just provide him with a deep enough sand bed and keep your fingers crossed that he eventually "remembers" how to burrow.

Sure, once he comes out I will grab a pic. Now that he remembered how to burrow I don't know where he is at the moment!
