Garden mixed tank going species specific?

Alright I upgrading my tank from 55-75 gallons. I currently have acro, monti caps, and digi's. I also have zoo's, mushroom rock, branching hammer, and frogspawn. Would I be best dumping everything that isn't SPS? I am thinking I should stick with acros, monti, and digi's only. I don't want to have chemical soup in my tank in the future...Hasn't been a problem in my 55 yet, but everything grows and I want to prevent future problems. Or is it all in vain unless I have acros from all the same family...anyone have any links on species specific tanks?

FWIW most successful reefers have "garden tanks" with several different species of corals mixed together. While IMO some allelopathy does occur the use of good filtration(mainly good skimming and carbon and/or UV/ozone), thoughtful coral placement and resisting overcrowding will go a long way in preventing any problems. I only have problems in my tank when I let my frogspawns get too big and even then only with corals that are adjacent. I know Anthony preaches about this and he makes some very good points, some of which I agree with and some that I personally don't. We have talked about it in a couple of threads:) IMO a reef tank is for the owner to enjoy and most feel a mix of corals more visually appealing and more fun to build and watch evolve over time. I think the hardest thing is resisting the urge to pack the tank. Sorry I can't help with any species specific info. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I agree with fishdoc11. I too have a mixed tank and will soon be upgrading, but in my case I will bring along only a select few softies, the zoo's, shrooms and GSP will be traded. For me its a realestate issue, I want as much room as possible for my SPS. Also, the only time that I had a "chemical" problem, was when I made the mistake of fragging my Colt in the tank. Funny thing is, the Acros were the only corals that were'nt bothered by the chemical release.
