garf grunge

I have an established tank (9 month old) using man made rock, 5 fish, several crabs and snails. I will buy some t-5s in the next few months for decent lighting. I have a refugium with cheato and a sand bed. The tank has 0 ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and phosphates. Now should I get some GARF grunge to populate the refugium and tank with all the little critters or should I hold off 6 or 7 months till I can start buying live rock with some coraline algea and critters or what?

I have no experience myself with garf grunge but read a thread on here yesterday that asked a similar question. All the postees unanimously agreed that it wasn't worth it. Sorry I don't have the link.

Go for the Grunge. It has tons of corraline in it. I have some in my tank and in my refugium. The sooner you do it the better established the critters will become.

I am partial to the Grunge myself...

There are many ways to get the same benefit without the grunge. If you know of any local reefers, see if you can get a cup or so of sand from their tanks. Sand swaps can work real well but as with many things you get from other tanks you take the good with the bad... I also get sand from one of the better LFS in Nampa...

Thanks,

Scott

I agree with what GARFVoulunteer suggested. It worked great for me but you never know what bad you may get with it.

Most people are willing to share and it is an easy way to meet others in your area in the hobby.
