gave up my reef half a year ago... nothing to do with the tank...

angels!and rio grande tetras and neons suck! its all about the cardinals get the good stuff!

also some bronze cory cats and rainbowfish would do good you have a 70 gallon tall right?
discus are awsome also!

hmmm my dad raised discus's before... I remember waterchanging that as a 9 year old. Bad memories... I want to have a lot of plants so I can't imagen disc's being able to move around.

Bergz! you prob dont' remember me but I went to your house to pick up chaeto before... and my tank has about 2ft of water left with salinity prob in the 5's (I haven't touched it for half a year after I emptied all life forms) and the chaeto you gave me is still green and alive! hahaha

Bergz how big how much od you think it would cost to set up something like what you have for a 70 g?

hehehe!

i give so much chaeto away but i would remember ya if i saw your face!

let me see...excluding the cost of the tank and lights which i already have and i am sure that you have it as well, so...

i change 5g-10g per week with reconstituted ro/di.

i fertize, let's say, whenever with:
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=SC5273
http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=SC5251

for decent very strong growth...i would suggest 300w of daylight pc, t5 or mh...but you can even dip down to 200w for good growth.

my mh is 150w de 5700k (ushio i think) and i get excessive plant gowth with very little nuisance algae.

i also used 40 lbs of eco-complete. excellent stuff and pretty much idiot proof which is important to me.

i consider substrate to be more important than lighting btw...i also put a very thin layer of peat on the tank bare bottom before putting the eco-complete on top.

co2 injection:
i use it cuz i know how from reefing. a lot of the guys on the fw plant forum try to cheap it out and diy with yeast and whatever. these are the same guys who complain about poor plant growth because of cheap crappy lights as well. fw plant mentality, generally from reading, is that fw plant aquarists seem to try and do everything as cheap as possible...and i mean moan and groan about a $70 lighting SYSTEM! my frigging bulb cost more than that. and so many of them wonder why their plants dont do well.

i use this reactor:http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idProduct=AQ7531

got md to price match it from custom aquatics.

i got another reef fanatic pH controller cuz i think they are the best reasonably priced unit for serious hobbiest.

got a jbj regulator from a group buy ages ago.

got an eheim ecco canister filter filled with coarse sponge and bio-media.
http://www.petsmart.com/global/prod...temNo=0&Ntt=ecco&In=All&previousText=ecco&N=2

got the big one and had md price match it.

ebo-jager heater

best place to get great plants at great prices?
http://www.aquaticplantdepot.com/index.html

i got a 'pre-package' deal as it saves me from trying to figure out what i wanted. i am not a hardcore fw plant guy so i am not critical about the plants i get. corals are a completely different story! :D

fish in my tank are:
2 discus
4 rummy nose
5 serpae

time for lights is 2pm to 10pm.

that's it!

if you want to see it up close...drop me a line if you want to swing by! i would be happy to show it and explain it!

also wouldn't I be dosing a lot for a plant tank? I mean I read they dose nitrites for fert... wonder if that will kill my fish. still have that reef mentality... 0/0/0

well u dont have to dose so much as if you have a co2 reactor set at like 3 bps ur good and some decent fertilizer! contact psidriven he has a great co2 reactor for sale and he has some fish and soil and plants for a great price!
