Well I got home today and my GBTA was wrapped up around the branches of my Frogspawn. The FS was all drawn up and dropping pieces of tenacles. I think the GBTA was winning. I had to pull them apart. Hope they didn't kill each other.......
TOURKID and avatar, just about says it all, huh. Ah the old days.
BTA's have been one of the easiest things I've ever kept. Not sure why so many people have problems. I can kill them. When I had the RO crash a few years ago, instead of dying like everything else, they split from 2 to 8 in three days. You don't have to feed them. I quit well over a year ago because I didn't need more babies (when everyone wanted them, I started splitting them on command, but then no one wanted them when I needed to get rid of them-I guess that's the way of the world...). Mine didn't like only (2)-110W actinic VHO's, though. The MH went out (this has been about four years ago) and they came crawling to the top for more light, but I've heard they are supposed to be able to live in lower light. Maybe actinics just don't have enough umph... I've only ever lost one coral to my BTA's in about 5-6 years-a hydnaphora from one of the early EBay meetings...
I'm in the same boat with Gary. I keep mine all under T5's and I rarely if ever directly feed my bubble tips (got to ****ed off at shrimp stealing stuff out of the anemone...they get really bold). Every once in a while a clown will feed them a particularly large (for the clown) morsel. I'm sure they catch other stuff in the water column. I'm also sure that they would grow faster if I did feed them.
I'd imagine under less light (e.g., the VHO's Gary mentioned) feeding requirements would be more of a concern.
Good luck getting a RBTA for free... if do find one for free ask them if they have another one
I've been wanting a RBTA for a while (now that I know I can keep GBTA's) but I wince at the idea of spending $90 on one (which seems to be close to the going price most places I've seen them).
they are around that at most places ive seen. liveaquaria wants 90 for them plus shipping. SWF.com has them for 60 but after the last order i dont know if you would want to risk it. Ive seen them go from 30-50 bucks in the for sale forums from people who have had them split but i havnt seen anyone selling them in our area.
