Hi, last night i went to my LFS and they had just got a shipment of BTA's in. Here is the one that i want. Is this a Green BTA? Any opinions on this BTA? good? bad?

Very nice gbta, I wish I could find a beauty like that around here. Is that a rock flower anemone on the right and another on the left? Can't tell type from photo. You may have alopathy problems concerns in long run, it is not advised to mix species. In any case hope you are running activated charcoal.
 
oh actually i took this picture from the lfs store hehe. it just came in from shipment, and i asked if i could leave the GBTA in his store for a few weeks to get it adjusted from travel.
on the left side of the anemone, the tentecles seem inflated and skinny, is it just cus it hasnt adjusted yet?
This will be my first anemone in my tank and i am very nervous/excited. i want to do everything right in order to have a healthy long lived anemone. the one thing i am most nervous about is picking a good spot for it in my tank. i am thinking right in the middle on my highest rock, but hopefully it won't move around too much, cus i dont want my other corals to get damaged.
 
That looks to be in good condition and for a good price i would get it. I ordered my BTA over the internet and it came 12 hours late because of a difficulty with UPS. I had to nurse it back to health and still it does not look great. I know some people have had good experiences with buying things on the internet, but I really woud rather see the anemone in person and have it spend 30 min in shipping rather than 10+ hours.
 
When aclimating they will inflate and deflate several times as they need to replace the water inside them. What you want to look for is if it is firmly attached, nice tight mough and good coloring. If you don't mind me asking what size tank, how long has it been up and what type of lighting do you have? You can place it where you want it but they have a mind of their own and it may choose a different spot. Just be ready and move any corals out of it's way. If you have a powerhead cover the intake, I have heard some people using a piece of nylon from a stocking, you will need to keep it clean.

i have a 46 gallon bow front tank, it has been up and running since Feb 2008. and i just got new t5 lights a few weeks ago. 4 x 39watts. 2 actinics, 2 10000k daylights, with a small blue LED for a moonlight.
i couldnt see the bottom of the BTA, i will try to look and see if its firmly attached the next time i go check up on it.
i have two koralias so i think i am going to cover them up. i have read horrifying stories of anemones getting sucked in the powerheads. scary!
i only two clownfish at the moment which i hope they will host the BTA, since they had one in their old home that they hosted. (got it from another reefer through the LFS)
i have heard about drip acclimating them in a bucket for 2-3 hours or until the bucket is full. but do u use a syphon tool to start the water?? kinda confused on this part.

I use the float method, never had issues. Sounds like you have the perfect setup. I am a little excited for you too. Would love a picture once you get it in your tank, gonna look pretty sweet!

yesyes of course i will post pics once i get it in my tank! and yes i have been preping my tank and making sure i have everything i need to take care of a BTA. i am actually getting a canister filter fluval 305 because at the moment i only have a HOB penguin filter. so i am getting that in next week. i want it to be all setup and running then i'll bring my BTA home.
actually the koralia PH's has a grated covering already, is that enough? or would the BTA still get sucked in?
i'll take more pics the next time i go visit my baby :D
 
I run thoose pumps they have worked great for and no BTA suck in yet. Also if you get this healthy BTA and your tank conditions are good the chances it will just detach and float are around are much less. When I added mine I had to decrease the flow for a week to allow the anemone time to attach. So you might need to change your flow depending on its position and reaction.
 
yea that is pretty horrific.....reefer's worst nightmare. ive even heard about anemones not liking the environment, and unhealthy, and will just committ suicide and get sucked into the powerheads. yikes!
 
I don't believe they'd commit suicide although it does seem that way. They will wander around if conditions don't suit them, if yours wanders then that is a sign that something is wrong. There are many things that can cause this chemestry, lighting, temp, salinity and you have to try and correct it and then hope it will settle down. While moving about, they get too close and just get sucked in, they are after all very thin fragile membrane filled with water, the suction just pulls them in. I am glad I don't use them but mine never move, only 1x to split.
 
ok i'll get my powerheads covered up. i'm gonna go visit it again tmr. now i just need to make a spot for it in my tank. i am thinking right in the middle. i have two powerheads, one on each corner, and they hit each other in right in the middle, so good flow there.
 
They don't like to be in the path of constant flow. If the power heads are blowing directly on it, it will move.

or is it better to have to near the sand?
 
They like to bury their foot in a crevice in the rock. I would say towards the top 1/3 is good. I would not leave a space like that. Look at where others have their anemones. I will find you some links.
