so i went home at lunch to check up on it, and i'm not sure if they are hosting it or not. they are really close to it, and the male likes to under the anemone. when he is under it, he wont move. (very scary to watch cus it looks like he is dead...) and the female gets really close, and sticks her head inside between the tentacles with just her body and tail sticking straight up out. then she wont move for a while, then jerk back out. is this normal behaviour?
good news tho, my anemone is HUGE. FULL tentacles, and looks bigger than ever.
 
Oh I'm so happy for you and your clowns. That's a really nice looking GBTA that you have. I love it's size too. I bet those fishes will be in there in no time.:)

i was surprised at how big the anemone was once i brought it home. things always seem smaller at the LFS :p
but im glad that its this size too since my clowns are big. the female is about 2.5 inches, and the male is around 2 inches.
 
Sometimes when clowns are getting used to an anemone they will do the behavior you describe, touch it or even bite it and then back away.

As far as feeding, if its foot is firmly attached and its tentacles are full and the mouth is closed, I would probably try a small piece of food in a day or two. Sometimes they won't eat for several days after being moved to a new tank, but you can try with a small (start with the size of a pea) piece of fresh shrimp or silverside and just remove it if the anemone doesn't take it into its mouth.

i know i shouldnt have done this, but i flipped that rock over, so now the anemone is facing the front. i was getting scared that my clowns were getting stuck, so i tried moving the smaller rocks again, and turns out its foot wasnt on two rocks. so i decided to flip it. now its facing the front.
but guess what? i woke up this morning to find them in bed together hahahaha :p

the anemone looks so soft, its like a big blanket for them. (Sorry for the bad quality pic, this was taken with my phone)
 
Glad to see they found their new home. You will want the foot to be on the underside of the rock. At least with mine, they will move unless they attach at least slightly past vertical. The anemone looks very healthy and the right size for two ocellaris of their length.
 
the foot is on the underside of the rock, but is it ok for half of the anemone to be on the sand? well i guess if it is not happy it will move by itself right?
 
The column and tentacles are fine on the sand. The foot, however, should be attached completely to the rock. Yeah, it will move if it's not happy. I'm glad your clowns took to it so quickly. It's satisfying to watch them so happy in an anemone, isn't it?
 
yes it is! its very exciting and interesting to watch them, even when they were still thinking if they should host it or not. but it was fustrating when they wouldnt go in...
i'm very happy that they finally decided to host the anemone. before i got the anemone, my clowns would dig in the sand in a shaded area and would cause sand storms. sigh, hopefully they wont do that anymore.
 
Lol, they can be annoying, can't they. Actually, they might like to dig around the anemone. Don't be surprised. That's one of the advantages of having an anemone high up from the sand, the clowns aren't inclined to dig.
 
oh, they were digging last nite right after i moved the anemone...around it. i thought they were still digging because they hadnt hosted it yet. hm...i guess the digging wont stop then...
 
i fed a head to my GBTA last night, and it ate it in 5 minutes!
one thing i'm concerned about is that my alk is a bit high (17dkh) , ph 8.1 and calcium around 360. all other parameters are zero, (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate = 0). Will the high alk be dangerous for my anemone?
 
I doubt it would be dangerous. Alkalinity tends to decrease unless you're adding buffer, so if you are you might stop doing that. I personally have gone through phases of adding two part solution and always testing alk and calcium. I've decided to do regular water changes with a good salt mix and forget it myself.
 
yea..i was adding a ph buffer cus my ph was around 8. i'll stop adding the ph buffer and do a water change this weekend.

How awesome. There's nothing nicer than seeing them snuggled in their jello bed - can't wait to get mine. That looks like a really healthy nem too.

Hey, I had surgery yesterday so today I'm high on vicodin....I could go nem shopping and claim temporary insanity lol.
 
it stretches out even bigger during the day....i went home last night around 5pm, and it was ginormous!
is it normal though that when the clowns are suggled in the nem, sometimes they just lie there not moving, kinda like they are dead? that's what mine do, and i have to keep staring at them just to make sure they start breathing again.
 
oh and the mouth is getting bigger too, but still tightly closed. i was reading that thats how they look when they are about to split. true? i hope not, i dont want mine to split yet...
