geen carpet anemone question

from time to time, this anemone looks as though it is growing a second foot...or what is this?

interesting - never seen that on my green carpet, had him for about 15 months now

its been doing this now off and on for about a week...it actually grabbed on to a shell today like a foot would have for about an hour then let go again...is this the way they look when they bud??
