but dont forget they sell purple tangs for $150.. their prices are CRAZY HIGH...

Ah.... but don't you forget the gem tangs are truly very rare and not often available.
I do agree Gabe, it's crazy to pay that much for any fish, but I suppose it's
a matter of priorities and how fat your wallet is.

I think it was marinecenter......... I ordered from them about 2 or so years ago. They were absolutely brain dead. They were the guys who could not tell me what they had in stock. That you are just suppose to order and you get what you get unless it is over half the order that they dont have in stock, then they cancel it.

I told the guy he is a moron and I cancelled my order. It believe it was marinecenter. I will have to check some old posts.

ya it was marine center, I would never purchase anything that expensive off of them. When the people at marinecenter have only a few brain cells, I would not invest 3k into them. STAY AWAY!!!

- THEY ARE KING OF THE STUPID

(although it does look like they worked on their problem, but the only true way to find out is to actually order from them and I would never do that. I used to send the ordering dept emails every so often telling them how brain dead they are :) )

- please don't ban me

man, $3000?! i only have $1500 that i'm willing to spend on a gem tang ;) man, i really like that fish but i guess my purple will have to suffice for the time being until i hit the lotto.

I don't know if they're brain dead but I was turned off by the fact that I pick-up was not an option for even pricey purchases.

yeah pretty ridiculous... I've seen them RETAIL in Socal for $750 in the last year.

I picked up my Conspic Angel for $550 in 2000... I can't imagine spending $3000 on one fish.

Where in SoCal did you see them retail for 750? The cheapest I've seen lately has been 1200-1500. In fact, I purchased one for a friend for that much a couple years back.

I know they are rare, but I think $500 is a fair price for it, it will probably just get ich and die anyways. I saw a friend of mine loose a $300 wrasse and I felt so damn bad!

about a year and a half ago at Tongs FV

If you are looking for a Gem Tang, or any other Rare fish, may I make a recommendation here?

Call Clint from Black Coral Hawaii. It may take a couple weeks, but he is more than fair on pricing, and can usually get you just about anything you want.

3 G's!!!! Wowzers!!!

Looks like a mixture of a sailfin and a yellow/purple tang? Whats the scientific name for these?

marinecenter gets some great fish. What I don't like about them from before is that they don't tell you how to take care of some of the fishes. My example would be I bought the white barred boxfish from them and it was after I talked to Steve Weast about it that I realized they need to be in a cold water system. Pretty much they will sell whatever they want w/o noticing the public how to take care of the animal. IMO that is kind of wrong. And the 699 price tag didn't make it better...I got another white barred from a lfs for 300.

A lot of internet fish dealers don't actually have a holding facility of their own. Most of them have arrangements with wholesalers and they are shipped to you directly from the wholesalers.
MarineDepot Live and LiveAquaria.com use Quality Marine. I know that there are others that use other wholesalers. You can't pick up the fish because the wholesalers don't want to mess with you.

Phil is right, however, MDL, actually goes to the wholesalers on 104th daily and hand picks the specimens they need. They don't buy from just one source.

My mistake. I won't bore you with the story, but I see now how I must have misunderstood MDLs relationship with QM.
