I was sitting around thinking about how often the lights need to be cleaned or wiped off due to salt being on it I would think that it would have less penetration due to being dirty
I just wipe my bulbs down weekly and reflectors when they get dirty. Although you should always watch the reflector so as to prevent the salt creep from eating away the reflective coating.
My lights have a plastic cover that slides out for easy cleaning. Once I went too long between cleanings that when I did clean, the corals closed up and a mushroom moved due to a sudden change in light intensity. I now am in the habit of check it from time to time and clean it before it gets bad.
I think it also depends on how close the lights are to the water and whether or not they are covered, I like to clean the glass covers on my halides about once a month, but the open pc fixtures atop my 10 gal i try to clean more regularly, and make sure the lights are off cause the water could cause cracking from instant difference in temps
