Generic Skimmer Depth in Sump

Right now I have a BM250 skimmer which requires 5-10" of water to work properly. However, I am not going to to stick with this skimmer for long. What is a generic height I should make my skimmer baffle in my sump?

In other words, what height of water do most skimmer require for a 180 gallon system. I can always build a stand to raise the skimmer up.

10 inches is good IME, if it needs less you can elevate it with PVC pipe fairly easily IME, but keep the pump down in the water to help with the noise.
