Genicanthus semifasciatus question

Does all Genicanthus species required cool tanks in the mid 70's?
Like to get a pair of Genicanthus semifasciatus but my tank runs at 79 degrees.

I have a Bellus female in a tank that's at 79 all the time and she is doing just fine. Liveaquaria I believe lists 72-78 for them. Only if you have deep water angels, none of which are easily obtainable Genicanthus you shouldn't have to worry about it. If deep water angels are what your wanting then 72-75 would be the target

I have a female Semifaciatus in a tank that run 77-78 with zero issues. Once established, they are a fairly hardy fish. I say go for the pair and enjoy :)

Edit: I just noticed in your sig line that you have a 110 Gallon display. These fish are doable in that size tank in the short term, but definitely need the room. I have one in a 6' 180 gallon and she uses up every bit of that space and is a very active swimmer.

Yes, they are considered a deep water angel as their collection range is between 15-200 meters (50-650 ft.) From what I have been told by a wholesaler friend, is that most of the specimens that show up in the aquarium trade have been collected in the shallower waters of the Philippines.

They will do better long term in a moderately lit tank that is kept cool. However, if able to obtain a healthy speicmen to start, a pair should have no issues adapting to a tank kept on the high end of the 70's.

Great info, thanks a lot. I think I'll try a female trio of the Genicanthus melanospilos species instead.

Great info from Derek....

They seem to be quite tolerant of higher temps, esp if slowly acclimated...
