Geo 818 Review

Thanks for the information on this piece of equipment. I just purchased this equipment and it will be here next week. My question is if if understood you correctly you said that the
"The reactor was fed with a MaxiJet 400 unit using fresh RO/DI water." Is this pump supplied with the system or do I have to purchase this separately?

I purchasedthis separately, but you may not need to use one. The way the reactor is built the water inlet is on the "suction" side...thus water is automatically drawn into the reactor.

However, I used the MJ400 to fill the reactor and flush the dust from the media.

Does that help?

Paul.

does anyone can help me?what does it mean"After slackening the retaining nuts around the head of the unit, all of the pipes and paperwork were removed." can i say that loose the components of head and then take is out?

Jeri,

Yes. Thats is correct

Sandy/Ed...you can you use any pump really, so long as you can connect it to the unit and you can control the flow.

I use that pump on my smaller Knop reactor.

Paul.

you mentioned that you filled the bubble counter with RO/DI water, why did you do this?

Another question on the feed pump. How do you know if you'll need to use one or not?

Thanks for the review!

I filled the bubble counter with water so that I could actually see the bubbles. I was not sure if it was a self filling chamber or not.

You will need a feed pump to give a controllable flow through the system. An MJ400 is a pretty good pump to run the reactor.

Paul.

Thanks for getting back to me Paul!

If you look at the package deals they have for these reactors, they all come with MJ1200's. I'm wondering if that's overkill for the application the pump is used for.

Mine didnt come with the MJ1200....at least I dont remember it doing so.

The MJ400 on my older reactor was more than sufficient for my use. So long as you can dial the pump back, the MJ1200 is fine. i recently fitted a unit with the MJ1200 and used a valve inline from the pum to the reactor to help regulate flow.

Kalk ATO with Calcium Reactor?

Kalk ATO with Calcium Reactor?

Paul,
Thanks for the informative Geo reactor article. I just started using a GEO 618 and your article gives me some additional insight into fine tuning my system. The reactor has only been running for a day or two, so we will see.

My question is about adding kalk water to my system, when I have this nice reactor going. I have read several "Tank of the Month" articles that use calcium reactors and kalk drips. I'm confused by this. I thought the calcium reactor was going to add my needed calcium/alk to maintain the desired levels. If adding kalk water to my system was required, that would tell me that my calcium reactor was not adjusted correctly and needed attention to make up this deficiency.

Is my thinking correct, or will I still need to add kalk water with my ATO. I was planning on using straight RO/DI water for ATO.

Your thoughts would be most appreciated.

Thx,
Kregg

There are no hard and fast rules for this....

I dont use Kalk and I know others that do. Kalk may help regulate the nightly drops in pH, especially if you have it operating by an pH controlled auto top off.

My thoughts are, if you find the Ca and Alk stable after a week or so, and it remains stable long term, then you dont need Kalk.

RoDi as ATO water is just fine.

Does that help any ?
