Geo Skimmer size?

I am getting a flushing effect from the skimmer. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have the skimmer output under water ??

No. You can see the white 1" pvc 90 down into the sump. It is a few inches above the water line.

Nothing is blocking the vent. I have ran it with and without the cap.
It is dropping 1/4" to 1/2" when it flushes.

The Main body is 8". This is the 835 Model.

Thats odd being pump fed. Can be somewhat normal from gravity feeding.

I personally wouldnt worry to much about 1/4" unless its just to noisy.

Is your gate valve closed down much?

Does it still flush if you pull the 90 off?

I tried a 1" Tee and it helped a little. Switch it out to a 1"x1.5"x1.5" Tee. With 1.5" going down from the Tee to the sump. That seemed to do the trick.

Its weird I can try all of these plumbing options without a trip to Lowes. If you stay at this hobby long enough you start collecting parts.

I second that statement!

Yeah, I have buckets full. That reminds me... time to hit savko for some more bulkheads and uniseals ;)

I am going to replace the Mag7 with a Mag3 this should move my dwell time from 30 seconds to 2 minutes per George. I might need some plumbing for that.

I will be upgrading skimmers soon and my choices are between the GEO 835 and Deltec 851. Would like to know what everyone here honestly thinks of the new Geo skimmers. Thanks!

They are definitely worth it. Very easy to adjust and pulls tons of crap. I need to really empty it 2 times a week but don't since it has a drain in the cup. The 846 is not much more than the Deltec 851 that you are looking at.

The Deltec I am looking at is designed for 270g heavy stock reefs or 400g avg stocked reefs. I have a 180g SPS reef with a large sump. Do you think the GEO 846 would be overkill (designed for aquariums up to 700gs....probably up to 400g or so with heavy loads? I did use an Aqua C 240 on a 75 g and I liked the results of running an oversized skimmer.

Not overkill at all. I'd go for it. Im actually running a HUGE custom Geo skimmer on around 600 gallons. It can easily work on a system in the 2000gal range and I'm loving every second of it.
