geothermal chiller

Well, I burried about 500' of 1/2" PEX along my footer. I wish I could share the pics, but I don't know how. I also wish that I could email the pics to someone who can post, but my computer will not let me email images. I tried the photo bucket thing, but I am computer retarded and I don't need the aggravation. It's just a bunch of blue pipe in the dirt.

Cuby your idea of using a pressure gauge to detect a problem during backfill is good, except for the cost of another snag during construction. PEX is pretty tough and I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

I won't know how this works out until I'm done building and then make the tank, probably some time next fall.

12 pages of a DIY thread an not a single picture of a trench in the back yard? You guys disappoint me. ;)

Hmmm I swear I posted mine back there somewhere,
Building is up, 1000 gallons of water running but no need for cooling here in December :D

Marco,

Yeah, I remember seeing those pics, but I just scrolled through the whole thread real quick & couldn't find them.

What kind of pipe and how many feet did you bury? How deep? Please share the cooling capacity of your geo thermal system once it gets hot outside.

Does anyone know if PEX-AL-PEX would work well for a heat exchanger?

Joe

If I ever get my house built, I can build my tank and see if 500 feet of 1/2" pex burried in the ground has much cooling capacity. The way things are looking, that won't be anytime soon. But this thread will still be here and I will share my results.

What happened to this thread?

i was very interested in this idea as well as a diy chiller. but after doing some research of various tanks that had basement sumps. i decided that this may not be necessary if i have a basement sump. so ive put off all chiller systems until after i get my new tank up and running. which is getting close. i should be ordering my 92 corner this month.
