I have absolutly no problem with the wire tap... ok... lets look at it. They say they only used the numbers dialed to track back known terrorists and then apply additional taps where thought needed to verify information....
[/B]

exactly..."they say." But who really knows. What they did was still illegal.

And they worked through that and we said don't do it at all... One less tool in the tool box to fix the problem...

And the acts commited are not any more illeal... or am I just missing the part where somethings are bad and others are really bad, do we quantify illegal? is killing or planning to kill better that listening to someone to see if they are going to do something bad?

Or more simply, we seem to value privacy more than security....

Someone help me.

What, no more Porn???? What ever will we do with the internet then? And what will I read in my email box... all those great offers for self improvement...

I have absolutly no problem with the wire tap... ok... lets look at it. They say they only used the numbers dialed to track back known terrorists and then apply additional taps where thought needed to verify information....

Did not your blood boil when they addmited the camcorder evidence of the terrorist that planed 911, and you could hear his voice making the sounds of a plane chrashing into the towers seen in the frame as he toured the city not 6 months before....

In case your living in a bubble... They ARE HERE. What is your plan to find them and stop them???? I ask this because I would not want the just of deciding what to do every minute of the day for 8 years... because EVERYTHING he does is wrong in some way. So, how I ask you will you, Lisa, keep Jason, Tammy and Rebecca, and her 3 kitties safe tomorrow.... ???? I really want to know.

I predict you will handout smiley stickers like the Walmart greeter and ask for forgiveness from the terrorists... but surprise me.

Here's two pictures for you to think about...

Explain to this face that you don't think potentially bad people should have their conversations listened to... just to see if they are bad or not... and....

Be thankfull these guys arn't on your street RIGHT NOW. Because we don't think it's ok to listen to bad people on the phone, but you think this helps the safety... I saw these guys on every street corner and 1/2 down every block last week.

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c205/jmkarcz/IMG_5167.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

I am not saying to stick only directly to the origanal constatution of course ammendment would need to be added on do to our ever changeing society. takeing the tv stuff into consideration it was ment as a tool of info and many parents only have reg. tv and i know kids have access to internet but it would be at least one less thing to melt and disfigure individualality. and the wire tap comment was a lame attempt to inform that freedom is not free to quote a great leader.

Put the mouse down and back slowly away from the computer Jason. She's just a kid and doesn't know much (look at the spelling) about life away from mommy and daddy. I also worry about the Seymour school district.

I value civil rights, not the government taking whatever actions they feel like at the moment. Obviously killing is illegal, but that was done by terrorists whose objective was to harm the US and its citizens. Does it make it better for our government to partake in illegal activities? Is that saying it's not ok for terrororists, murderers, robbers, drug dealers, etc. to do something illegal, but if it's our president he can do whatever he wants, legal or not? Laws are there for a purpose, whether for the common citizen or the commander in chief. Today it's illegal wiretapping, tomorrow could be something more drastic. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

What is the old saying about discussing politics and religion in polite company? This thread needs to end before someone says something they will reallly regret (Not me because I have no conscience). Just let it fade into oblivion and keep the discussion to reefs. There are plenty (God knows) of political forums out there for al of us to spout our own particular brand of political nonsense.

I agree with you on that. LOL I can see now why on RC, this type of thread is a no no. I guess some of us feel very passionate about these topics. I wish more people would think about it more often, no matter what side of the fence we wind up on. Then find the things we agree on, and make something happen..

Comparing someone speeding down the street to someone plotting the complete destruction of our socio and economic bases is exactly the problem.

We're not talking him listening to every conversation on every phone line just for the heck of it. Hey, if it keeps me safe, you can listen to ALL my phone conversations, I couldn't care less.

We're bringing butterknives to a gun fight folks.

If it makes you feel better that you're not being listened to on your phone conversation (if you are, there's a darn good chance you SHOULD be) and are okay that we've now opened the door for radical terrorists to plot our destiny, then I guess maybe a serious sit-down and life evaluation is needed.

This state already gave a resounding YES vote to state-conducted murder, I don't see how that's any different. It's all a matter of context and circumstances.

And that's my opinion...you don't have to agree. Hell, you don't even have to listen or respect it if you think it's stupid, IMHO.

I agree with several of Fred's points.

We are all entitled to our own opinions... thats why this great nation has gone as far as it has. Freedom. I won't try to tell you I'm right, or always right for that matter, but I won't discount the fact that you could be wrong. I'm a mostly conservative person who listens to liberal radio ALL DAY and I understand the arguements.

The part that I have the most serious problem with is the person who does not get educated about the issues, but only looks for "buzz" topics to push buttons on, and if that, not even understand the true topic at hand. Then they try to inject an opinion in...ill informed.

AS I understand it... and after weeks of radio - what they were doing was to take the phone numbers of KNOWN PROBLEM PEOPLE and then checking the records of who they called... then, check all the numbers those people called...
then, check all the numbers those people called...
then, check all the numbers those people called...
and maybe a couple more times.

They did this to see how far the organizations went, and how deep. then they cross refferenced alot of numbers and tried to create a picture.

They then tapped the lines of a ridiculas amout of people, to see if their suspicions were correct.

Then the perverbial dung hit the great whirly blades.

The liberals screamed illegal line tapping... the media swarmed like sharks, and the rest will be history..

If you look at how most peopl communicate, and how information is moved, phone is one of the top 3. And so is EMAIL, and if you can't take the numbers or emails addresses, or the IP addresses of KNOWN problems, and hold them up to the light and see who else may be connected, that we don't know about... we could spend all our lives chasing down small fries... people who don't amount to any more than the guy or gal with the bomb strapped to their chest. Not the Guy teaching them how to do it.

I could pound this for a while, but I assume since you all have reef tanks you understand somewhat more complicated stuff already, and you don't need me to do so.

I appologize for getting a bit to passonate a page back, and have already told you why.

I am done posting to this thread, I'm moving on, please, post your finals, and come with, I want to get back to the good stuff.
